Getting started

MealPrepper keeps your recipes, a cooking calendar, and your grocery lists in one place, with an AI assistant that can plan meals and manage the list for you.

The left sidebar (or the bottom bar on a phone) switches between the main areas.

Tips

The same tips that show while the app opens:

  • Share a recipe from your web browser straight into MealPrepper with the Share button.
  • Tap Share on a recipe to send it to a friend.
  • Tap an ingredient to cross it off while you cook.
  • Scale a recipe ½×, 2× or 3×, and the amounts update.
  • Your screen stays awake while a recipe is open.
  • “Add to list” skips pantry staples you already have.
  • Sale badges show which items on your list are on sale this week.
  • Pick your stores in Settings, and your grocery lists are checked against their current deals.
  • Add a note to the calendar, like “Leftovers” or “Eating out”.
  • Swipe a grocery item left to delete it. In the compact recipe list, swipe a recipe left.
  • Tap a grocery item’s recipe name to open the recipe, or its calendar day to move it to another night.
  • Switch Recipes to the compact list with the buttons beside the search box.
  • Coming from another recipe app? Import your recipes in Settings › Data.
  • PRO: the assistant plans your week around what’s on sale and what you already have on hand. Just tell it.

Save a recipe from any website

Found a recipe on a blog? Send it straight to MealPrepper from your browser’s Share button. It comes in with the ingredients, steps and times filled in, without the ads and the life story.

iPhone and iPad

  1. Open the recipe page in Safari or Chrome.
  2. Tap Share (the square with an arrow pointing up). In Chrome it’s in the address bar.
  3. Tap MealPrepper in the row of apps.
  4. MealPrepper opens with the recipe filled in. Check it, then tap Create recipe.
Don’t see MealPrepper in the row? Scroll to the end and tap More, then turn MealPrepper on. Or tap Edit and add it to Favorites so it’s always first.

Android

  1. In Chrome, tap ⋮ and then Share.
  2. Pick MealPrepper, check the recipe, and tap Create recipe.

On a computer, copy the page’s address and paste it into the “Download from a URL” box under Recipes → + Add Recipe.

Recipes

  1. Open Recipes and press + Add Recipe.
  2. To pull a recipe off the web, paste its URL in the “Download from a URL” box — it reads the ingredients, steps and times and fills in the form. Or just type it in yourself.
  3. Review the form, add categories, then Create recipe. Cancel backs out without saving.
Add a recipe from a link

On Recipes, tap + Add Recipe.

Categories

On the Recipes page, use + New category to add a tag, or Edit to remove one. Filter the grid by tapping a category chip. You can also make a new category straight from the recipe form.

Scaling

On a recipe, the Scale buttons (0.5× / 2× / 3× / custom) rewrite the ingredient quantities. Tap an ingredient line to cross it off while you cook.

Sharing a recipe

On a recipe, tap Share to get a link you can text or email. Anyone with the link can see the recipe and save a copy to their own MealPrepper. Someone new is shown how to get the app first. They get the recipe as it was when you shared it; share it again after editing to update the link. Your rating and cooking history stay private.

Calendar & meal planning

  1. From a recipe, tap Add to plan, pick a day and a meal, then tap Add.
  2. Or open the Calendar, tap + add under a day, and pick a recipe — or choose “Add a note instead” for something like “leftovers”.
  3. Use ‹ and › to move between weeks (or months), and Today to jump back.
  4. On a computer, drag a meal chip to another day to reschedule it.
From a recipe

On a recipe, tap Add to plan.

From the calendar

On the Calendar, tap + add under a day.

Each meal type has its own color — orange for breakfast, green for lunch, indigo for dinner, magenta for snacks. On a phone, tap a day in Month view to zoom into those two weeks.

Scheduling a recipe also counts as cooking it — that’s what feeds the Stats page and the “last made” line on each recipe.

Groceries, lists & pantry staples

  1. Tap the list name at the top to switch lists, rename or delete one, or start a new list.
  2. Type an item — suggestions appear as you go, and the aisle is guessed for you.
  3. From a recipe, tap Add to list to add all its ingredients at once.
  4. Tap an item to edit its quantity, aisle, or note. Swipe an item on a phone to delete it.
Add a recipe's ingredients

On a recipe, tap Add to list.

Pantry staples

The Pantry Staples list (in Settings) is things you normally keep on hand — salt, oil, and so on. When an item is checked, it’s skipped when you bulk-add a recipe’s ingredients. Uncheck one when you run out so it gets added next time.

Store deals

Set your shopping ZIP code and pick your stores in Settings → Store deals (or use “Use my location”). MealPrepper then checks the weekly deals at the stores you chose and shows a small coloured badge next to matching grocery items. Tap a badge to see the price and when the deal ends. Prices come from third parties and can be out of date — confirm in-store.

Shop the deals with the assistantPRO

The AI assistant can see this week’s sales at your stores too. Ask it what’s on sale, or to plan the week’s dinners around the deals, and it will pick recipes that use the discounted items and add them to your list.

The AI assistantPRO

Open the assistant from the sidebar (“Show assistant”) or the green chat button at the bottom-right of a phone screen. Ask it to plan meals, check the calendar, or add and remove grocery items — it can act for you and shows what it did.

Plan a dinner with the assistant

Tap the green chat button.

Give it standing preferences (diet, dislikes, household size, timing) in Settings → Assistant so you don’t repeat them each chat.

The assistant is powered by AI (Anthropic’s Claude) and can be wrong. Your recipes, calendar, and grocery list are sent to Anthropic to answer each message. It is not nutritional, medical, or food-safety advice — always double-check quantities, substitutions, allergen information, and cooking and storage guidance yourself. Review anything it adds to your list or calendar.

Your chat history is kept only in your browser. “New chat” clears it.

Each account can send up to 30 assistant messages a day.

MealPrepper PRO

The free plan covers everyday use. PRO adds:

  • The AI assistant. It plans meals, puts them on your calendar, and builds your grocery list.
  • Planning around deals. The assistant checks this week’s sales at your stores before it suggests anything.
  • Unlimited recipes. The free plan holds up to 50.
  • Unlimited grocery lists. The free plan includes one.

Store deals, sharing recipes from websites, the calendar, and Stats are free for everyone.

PRO is $6 a month, or $60 a year (two months free). Subscribe in the MealPrepper iPhone or Android app. Your subscription carries over to the website when you sign in with the same account.

Cancelling

Cancel anytime through the store you subscribed with. On iPhone: Settings → your name → Subscriptions. On Android: Play Store → your profile picture → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions. You keep PRO until the end of the period you’ve paid for.

Stats

The Stats page summarises what you actually cook, based on your calendar. Use the period selector for all-time or a single year. Charts cover meals over time by category, your most-cooked recipes and categories, and how many recipes carry each tag. Tap a bar to open that recipe or a filtered recipe list.

Tap a bar to jump to the recipe.

Import & export

Export (Settings → Data) downloads every recipe as a JSON file. Photos aren’t included. Keep an export as your backup.

Import accepts export files from most recipe apps, plus CSV and JSON. Recipes with a name you already have are skipped unless you tick “overwrite”. Nothing is ever deleted.

Account & privacy

Sign in with Google, or with Apple in the iPhone app. On the website you can also sign in with just an email address — choose “Use email instead” and you’ll get a link by email that signs you in, no password needed. Your recipes, calendar, and lists are private to your account.

What’s stored and who it’s shared with is spelled out in the Privacy Policy. Your use of the app is covered by the Terms & Conditions. To delete your account and everything in it, go to Settings → Account → Delete account.
